Apple Health on iPhone
Import your iPhone and Apple Watch health data into Tirzing.
On iPhone, you can bring your Apple Health data into Tirzing. Because Apple Health lives on your phone, you push it to Tirzing from a free Apple Shortcut or the Health Auto Export app. Open Settings, then Apple Health (iPhone) to set it up.
What you can import
- Weight
- Heart rate
- Blood pressure
- Blood glucose
- Body fat
- Steps
- Water
- Food: calories, protein, carbs, fat and fiber, plus vitamins and minerals
- Sleep
- Workouts
This imports into Tirzing; it does not write back to Apple Health. Data from a scale, an Apple Watch or any app that feeds Apple Health can flow in this way.
Setting it up
- Open Settings, then Apple Health (iPhone) and copy your personal URL (it is unique to you, so keep it private).
- Easiest: install “Health Auto Export – JSON+CSV”, add a REST API automation (data type Health Metrics), paste your URL and pick the data. For food, tick Dietary Energy, Protein, Carbohydrates, Total Fat and Fiber along with the rest.
- Change the date range so it includes today. Health Auto Export’s default range does not include the current day, so without this change today’s food, water and steps only arrive tomorrow. Choose a range that includes today and reaches back a few days.
- Set the automation to run once an hour, then turn it on.
- For workouts, add a second REST API automation with the same URL and its data type set to Workouts, with the same date range (including today) and hourly schedule. Workouts are never sent with your other health data, so the first automation alone brings none in.
- Free alternative: build an Apple Shortcut that reads your Health values and posts them to your URL, then schedule it under the Automation tab. The settings page has the exact steps and an example.
Re-sending never creates duplicates: Tirzing skips anything it already has, and a day’s steps, water or sleep that grew since the last send is updated rather than added again. If you ever share your URL by mistake, generate a new key on that page to invalidate the old one.
Using a Shortcut? Send each reading’s own date (for example weight_date) and send steps, water and food as the whole day’s total. The settings page shows the exact keys.
Food and macros
If you log food in another app that shares with Apple Health (MyFitnessPal, Lose It!, Cronometer and the like), your calories, protein, carbs, fat and fiber come into your Tirzing food diary, along with any vitamins and minerals that app records (sugar, sodium, iron, vitamin D and the rest). A supplement logged there with no calories comes in too. Apple Health keeps the numbers but not the names of foods, so an entry reads “Food from MyFitnessPal”, filed under the meal that fits the time you logged it. If your export groups data by day, or you use a Shortcut, you get one daily total instead.
Log each meal in one place only. Food you log in another app and again in Tirzing is counted twice. Food comes in only when your plan includes food tracking.
Workouts and strength training
Workouts from your Apple Watch or any app that saves them to Apple Health come in through the second (Workouts) automation, each as a session with its name, time and calories. Strength workouts, such as Traditional Strength Training or Functional Strength Training, are filed as strength training, so they count toward your strength and muscle-protection insights.
Apple Health does not keep sets, reps or weights, so those can’t come across. To add them, open the workout under Workouts and use Add what you lifted. Your lifting volume and strength progress then include them, and the calories stay as your watch measured them. See Workouts & programs.
Workouts come in only when your plan includes exercise tracking.
Today’s food or water isn’t showing, but yesterday’s is.
Your Health Auto Export date range doesn’t include today, which is the app’s default. Change the range on your automations to one that includes today, and set them to run once an hour.
My workouts aren’t coming in.
Workouts need their own automation in Health Auto Export, with its data type set to Workouts. The Health Metrics automation never sends them.
Is there a Tirzing iPhone app?
Not yet. In the meantime everything works in Safari (you can add Tirzing to your Home Screen), and this Apple Health import covers getting your watch and scale data in. A native iPhone app may come later.
